Fort Wayne, Ind. – Here are some of the programs and events happening in September at the Botanical Conservatory:

Fall Plant Swap

Saturday, Sept. 5, 10 - 11 a.m.

Take home a variety of new plants having brought at least one of your own to swap with fellow growers. Upon arrival, you will receive a number that is called in numerical order when it is your turn to pick from the assortment. Please label plants ahead of time. It is also recommended to bring a box or bag for transporting home. Swaps are free; however, space is limited. Call 427-6000 and mention code # 427700S1 to reserve your spot today!

 

Fall Bonsai Display

Saturday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Meet with members of the local bonsai club and learn all about this fascinating hobby! Familiar trees, at a fraction of their size, will have visitors captivated when strolling through a miniature forest. Young plants and pots will be available for purchase. Receive special discounted admission to the Conservatory gardens and bonsai display: $3/adult; $2/child; free for ages 2 and under. Sponsored by the Fort Wayne Bonsai Club.

Present Tense, Future Calm

Exhibit Open through November 15

This summer and fall, the Conservatory invites visitors to escape the turbulence of daily life when embarking on a journey and exploring a garden state of mind. All are welcome to step into our Showcase Garden, designed to help visitors pause, relax and reflect. Sponsored by the English Bonter Mitchell Foundation, PBS Fort Wayne & MAJIC 95.1.

$1 Night: Something About Basil

Thursday, Sept. 3, 6 - 7 p.m.

Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun St.

As summer is wrapping up, come learn all about this heat-loving plant and culinary herb loved by many. There’s just something about basil. Receive discounted admission of just $1 per person on the first Thursday night of the month starting at 5 p.m. Anyone and everyone is welcome to join in these themed educational activities offered monthly at the Conservatory! No reservation required.

Tai Chi Series

Begins Tuesday, Sept. 15

Registration deadline: Sept. 8

Fee: $69 (Member or Volunteer Fee: $59)

Revive your energy levels with a Tai Chi Series that modifies the Sun Style Form for beginning to advanced students. Skilled instructor Sandy Gebhard will help you discover the benefits of this gentle art form that relaxes the body and focuses the mind. As an alternative to in-person sessions, the option for live digital sessions is available via Zoom. Please indicate at-home digital preference and provide required email address when registering. Ages 18+.

Garden Preschool: Cool Weather Crop Planting

Tuesday, Sept. 15, 10 – 11 a.m.

Registration Deadline: Sept. 8

Session Fee: $6 (Member or Volunteer Fee: $4)

While encouraging the basics of garden exploration at a young age, each Garden Preschool class examines a related theme through hands-on crafts, stories and snacks. Garden activities are sure to get everyone thinking! Adult guardians are required to participate for the duration, but registration is only required for children. Please indicate if a participant has food allergies. Ages 3-5.

Pinecone Floral Wreath

Sunday, Sept. 27 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Registration deadline: Sept. 19

Session Fee: $24 (Member or Volunteer Fee: $21)

Design a double-taking floral wreath with painted pinecones that look like real-life Zinnias. Pinecones are pre-coated in a variety of colors for you to detail with paint and adhere to a 10” grapevine wreath. While it is drying, you are invited to visit the café and gift shop. Also, be sure to visit the indoor and outdoor gardens as part of your registration! Ages 15+.
