Fort Wayne, Ind. –The Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory at 1100 South Calhoun Street presents the following events and programs in May:

 

Emergence: 2022 Live Butterfly Exhibit

Now until June 26, public hours

Foellinger Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Live butterflies return to the Botanical Conservatory bringing with them an array of natural beauty and wonder! As plants and butterflies emerge with warmer weather, we too unfurl like the tendrils of plants and the wings of butterflies. Flying, climbing and vining, they remind us of our own inner workings and what it takes to reach greater heights. Come “hang out” and enjoy a twist in this year’s exhibit where vines and butterflies intertwine! Included with regular admission.

 

Mother’s Day Plant Sale

May 6, 7 and 8

Friday, 4:00-7:00 p.m., Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday, 12:00-4:00 p.m.

McMillen Park Community Center, 3900 Abbott Street

Just in time for spring, the Botanical Conservatory offers over 700 varieties of plants at the annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale. Shop masses of locally grown herbs, vegetable starts, flowering perennials and native plants along with annuals, mixed containers and hanging baskets. A team of knowledgeable plant advisors are ready to answer questions and offer suggestions. This annual fundraiser supports the Botanical Conservatory. Sponsored by Majic 95.1 WAJI, Fox 55 and Massage Envy.

 

Mother’s Day in the Garden

Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8, public hours

Foellinger Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Plan a special outing to the Botanical Conservatory where Moms get in FREE on Mother’s Day weekend. Admire the lovely garden displays, drop by Conjure Coffee and browse the Conservatory Shop together. Also take advantage of a plant giveaway while supplies last! National Public Gardens Week

May 10-14

Foellinger Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

All are invited to explore diverse plant collections while touring indoor and outdoor destinations at the Botanical Conservatory. As part of Fort wayne’s downtown revitalitzation efforts since 1983, our mission is to “provide a unique botanical venue for quality public education and enjoyment.” Visit during National Public Gardens Week to learn, celebrate and discover what there is to see and do at your local public garden! Regular admission fees apply.

 

 

Spring Bonsai Show

Saturday, May 21, 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Stroll through a miniature forest of familiar trees and meet with members of the Fort Wayne Bonsai Club who are happy to share all about this fascinating art form. An array of bonsai specimen and pots are available for cash-only purchase from the Bonsai Club. Show entry in included with general admission.

 

 

Iris Flower Show

Sunday, May 22, 12:00-3:00 p.m.

Enjoy the best of this year’s blooms and visit with the northeast Indiana Iris Society, a local group of gardeners with a passion for growing Irises. These showy flowers are on disiplay with stunning color and a range of species. Be sure to vote for your favorite! Show entry included with general admission.

 

 

Build a Birdhouse

Sunday, May 22, 1:00-2:00 p.m.

Foellinger Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Using hand tools with safety as a priority, make a take a classic wooden birdhouse to give as a gift or display proudly at home. Bring a hammer if you have one! Guardians must stay with children for the duration of the workshop, however, do not need to register themselves. All materials will be provided. Garden admission is also included. Spring Plant Swap

Saturday, June 4, 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Foellinger Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 South Calhoun Street

Meet fellow enthusiasts and bring home new plant babies having brought your own to swap; vegetables, annuals and houseplants are preferable this spring. Please label plants ahead of time and bring a carrier for transporting. Swaps are FREE, though space is limited. Call 427-6000 to reserve your spot today!
